What to Wear to an NFL Cheerleaders Tryout
Filed Under Cheerleader Auditions, NFL Cheerleader Merchandise | Leave a Comment
If this is your first time trying out for the NFL cheerleaders team, you’re probably wondering “What do I need to wear to an NFL cheerleaders tryout?” Well, you’ve come to the right place because I’m going to tell you the ins and outs of how you can get your hands on the right clothes to wear in an NFL cheerleaders tryout as well as any other kind of cheerleading tryout.
There’s no hard-set dress code in terms of NFL cheerleader audition attire. However, we don’t want to show up in a puffy sweater and sweats now do we? Let’s try to avoid sloppy clothes. Especially, when all the other girls are probably going to be wearing something like halter tops and biker shorts. Yes, that is somewhat the standard on what girls wear to NFL cheerleading tryouts. If you don’t believe me, take a look at these three videos of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in their auditions / tryouts process. You’ll see that most of them are wearing some sort of halter top or tank top matched with biker shorts or briefs. Long sleeves are acceptable too but I think girls naturally catch more attention when they show more skin — of course you don’t want to be getting the wrong type of attention so don’t go too far off the skin spectrum. So by all means, watch these videos and get the feel for what the standard is. I’ve provided not one, not two, but three of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers tryouts video which will not only show you what they wear in the NFL cheerleaders tryouts but also show you what you need to prepare yourself for and what kind of competition you will be going up against.
Episode 1: The coordinator expects 400 people to show up at the 2007 Tampa Bay cheerleader tryouts. We get a glimpse of some of the participants in this auditioning process. There are two girls who said they both started a program in working out, eating healthy. Other girls talk about why they want to join. The routine starts with a kickline, four girls at a time. Then another short routine where it’s three girls at a time. 100 girls will make it to semi-finals. One of the girls named Erin says she is intimidated by how many beautiful and talented women there are in these NFL cheerleader tryouts. The kicks are not easy and it’s definitely something you should practice on. What the coordinator is looking for in a potential NFL cheerleader is a well rounded female with great talent, speaking skills, and ability to take part in the community. Some of these girls have had extensive experience in dance, while others not so much. For all of them in the NFL cheerleader tryouts, it’s a nerve-racking experience to some extent but nonetheless the ladies have fun learning all that they can during the process. At the end, the cut is made for semi-finals. Don’t forget to notice what the ladies are wearing as NFL tryout outfits - primarily a tank with bike shorts or pants. Episode 2: Semi-finals - The former Tampa Bay Buccaneer cheerleaders from prior year now enter the auditions process and this makes the new girls a bit nervous. I mean who wouldn’t be? You got a bunch of NFL cheerleading veterans who come in and already know what the judges’ expectations are, who have had a whole season of experience. If you were betting on an NFL veteran versus a rookie, who would you bet your money on? However, the new girls know that they need to step up their game and this is their push to do so. To not step it up, would allow the former NFL cheerleaders an easy win. The 2007 Tampa Bay Cheerleading veterans don’t exactly have it easy because they have to work hard. It’s still a competition and they can’t let their guard down. This time, they audition 2 at a time with a more difficult routine. Learning a routine within 45 minutes to an hour, the girls have to get it right quickly. One of the girls mentions that she found herself looking down trying to remember the steps but pulled her eyes up again. It’s not good to let the judges see u keeping your eyes down. Who wants to see a bunch of cheerleaders staring at their feet while they’re dancing? Not me. The dancers also have to remember to smile. So it’s a tough nerve-racking ordeal to be in these NFL cheerleader auditions but they’ve got to go through it in order to perform for these top quality squads. Episode 3: Finals - This time, the finalists perform their routines one at a time. They get on a stage and perform for the coordinator. It’s not an easy deal but each one tries their best and most of them make the squad. Some of the ladies featured in this video that made the 2007 Tampa Bay Buccaneers Cheerleading squad include Holly Sellers, Erin Verdel, Rochelle Williams, and Leigh Killian (if you remember Leigh, she was the one hosted on Conan O’Brien Show).By the way, don’t worry that was not the 2008 Tampa Bay Buccaneers tryouts. That was actually just the 2007 Tampa Bay Buccaneers auditions. In any case, you have officially seen for yourself that these ladies mostly wear a halter top or tank top with biker shorts.
Okay, so now you’ve seen what kind of clothes you need to wear to the NFL cheerleader auditions, the question is where do you get them?
One place where you can get NFL cheerleader tryout apparel is The Line Up. I like how they have good designs for their tops and shorts which are perfectly appropriate for NFL cheerleader auditions. Below are some of the pictures of these cheerleading audition attire straight from The Line Up.

It’s easy to order online because they have a sizing chart so you can see what size you need to order. Also, the prices are quite reasonable for such quality apparel. Here is the direct link to The Line Up store which features all their tryout clothes.
Here are is another recommended store, Zonas Designs, where you can peruse if you want to see different designs:
Ladies, if you already have stuff like this, you probably don’t need to be buying anything. After all, there’s the makeup and hair stylists to worry about. But if you find yourself at a lack of clothes, then I suggest getting some of the cheerleading audition attire at the above stores or wherever you can find them. Any questions, just leave a comment and I’ll do my best to answer. Hope that answers your question of what to wear to an NFL cheerleaders tryout / audition.

Falcons Cheerleader Kristy - More Than A Pretty Face
Filed Under NFL Cheerleader Profile | 2 Comments
When a spot opens up with a professional cheer leading organization, one can bet that there will easily be 100 times more applicants than there are spots open. That’s why Falcons cheerleader Kristy was so excited when she earned her spot cheerleading with the Atlanta Falcons.
Becoming a cheerleader means sticking to a rigorous schedule of physical fitness and toning. Many cheerleaders participate in different types of dance including ballet to keep their muscles firm and strong. In addition, mastering modern dance, jazz, and hip-hop dancing helps them with the new difficult choreography that will be introduced at a cheerleading tryout.
Professional cheerleading is much harder than some people realize and includes very early mornings and a rigid schedule. One account of their game day schedule showed the Atlanta cheerleaders started work at 5 am and stopped for a “two minute lunch” at 9:05. They then return to the practice sessions for more dancing and working on their cheering routines. Cheerleaders will also spend time energizing the crowds before the game starts and during breaks.
One thing Falcons cheerleader Kristy and her team mates would like people to know is that there is more to being NFL cheerleaders than just cheering at games. Cheerleaders make appearances all over the state representing their team. In addition, they will make visits to local hospitals to cheer up patients and charity appearances for their favorite charities. Cheerleaders also pose for photo shoots for many things including calendars and magazines.
Falcons Cheerleader Kristy on Video
Cheerleaders are often thought of as the stereotypical ‘dumb blonde model types. In fact, cheerleaders maybe be pretty but they are far from dumb. Many of the cheerleaders come to professional cheerleading only after competing as cheerleaders in college and earning their degrees. Cheerleading spots are hard to get, and being smart is actually a plus for a prospective cheerleader.
Many cheerleaders like Falcons cheerleader Kristy cheer for several years before using their talent for different, but often related endeavors. Kristy cheered with the Atlanta Falcons for several years before becoming their professional cheerleading consultant and choreographer. Others have gone on to own dance companies, teach gymnastics, and even gone on to do modeling.

Where are the Green Bay Packers Cheerleaders?

Green Bay Packers Cheerleaders
As Lambeau Field and the city of Green Bay get ready to host the NFC Championship Game this coming weekend, it’s all hands on deck as players, coaches and stadium staff prepare for the largest football event the city will host this year.
Meanwhile, across town on the campuses of the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay and in nearby De Pere, WI, at St. Norbert College, a local all-star team of cheerleaders selected from the two schools makes similar preparations to hit the field as both the unofficial and the official Green Bay Packers Cheerleaders.
Most people know that the Packers don’t have a team-affiliated cheerleading squad, but what many people forget is that once upon a time they did. Following the 1988 season, the Packers’ then-executive vice president of administration Bob Harlan issue a press release saying that Green Bay fans were divied on whether the Green Bay Packers Cheerleaders squad should continue to exist, and that the official stance would be that the club would continue without them.
The Pack weren’t the first team to make such a decision, nor were they the last. Oddly, since the 1995 season they have invited the girls from the two schools to be a part of gameday festivities. The squads aren’t employees of the team, nor are they referred to specifically as Green Bay Packers Cheerleaders; rather, they are treated as representatives of their respective schools (even though they’re all clad in identical outfits with Packer colors). One would think that anyone bold enough to go out in sub-freezing temperatures to work the crowds in the dead of a Wisconsin winter could at least get a nod or two from the team they’re supporting.
Then again, one would also assume that no one in their right mind would find much to cheer for in the dead of a Wisconsin winter, either – Green Bay Packers Cheerleaders or not. Must be a cheesehead thing.

Cheerleaders Work Hard Too

A Guest Post by Lori (a Professional College Football Cheerleader)
Cheerleading has recently been recognized as a sport. As a cheerleader it drives me crazy when I hear people referring to us as models out there to distract – or accusing us of not working hard. I only aspire to work at the professional level and will tryout in the future…after all I am only a sophomore in college.
We work grueling hours on new routines, spend countless time exercising to keep in shape, coming up with new ideas and practicing the choreography. There are costume fittings, photo shoots, not to mention the games that we perform at. We travel with the team out of town and perform there too! There are early mornings, late nights but all in all it is worth it.
The sense of pride that we have as cheerleaders when our team wins a game can’t compare with any other feeling. We pick the team up from the ground and bring them straight to the prize – the touchdown.
We are intelligent! We know about football – know how to play the game and are surrounded by it twenty four seven. We are in college majoring in a huge variety of subjects from Science to Literature. After class it’s off to practise and vice versa.
Cheerleaders are dedicated. The sense of camaraderie in my cheer squad can be overwhelming. It’s not like you think it would be; we are competitive but we support each other to the fullest. Girls can be catty – but as cheerleaders we try to support rather than tear down! After all, It’s what we do!

Professional Cheerleaders Alumni, Inc.

Former Professional Cheerleaders Start Non-Profit Organization
(Jacksonville, FL) Several former Jacksonville Jaguars Cheerleaders have created an alumni organization who is continuing positive commitments to the Jacksonville community. Professional Cheerleaders Alumni, Inc. was created by seven women who want to continue their sisterhood with other professional alumni cheerleaders, while reaching out to the community.
The mission of Professional Cheerleaders Alumni, Inc. (PCA), is “to be positive role models who are committed to having an impact on the community by providing service, opportunities, and support to activities that benefit women and children.” These ladies have volunteered hundreds of hours this past year appearing at charity events such as Jaguars Foundation’s Honor Rows Program, Paint the Town, Straight Talk, and many other community efforts.

For 2008, they have created a Community Grant Program offering grants to qualified agencies in Duval and surrounding counties who support their mission to help women and children. Funds from these grants come from annual dues paid by professional alumni cheerleader members.
These talented ladies will also begin offering Audition Prep Classes from January through March, teaching dance skills, interview and appearance techniques, and other tips necessary to help those ladies who are auditioning for competitive and professional teams. These classes will be held at Bailey’s Powerhouse Gym in Mandarin, who has partnered with the organization.
PCA also recently partnered with NetBreeze Inc., to develop a state-of-the-art web site where the public can learn more about PCA and the new programs they have to offer. You may access it at www.ProCheerleadersAlumni.com.

Should NFL Cheerleaders Start a Union? Part 2
Filed Under NFL Cheerleaders Articles | Leave a Comment
A recent article in the men’s magazine GQ presented a profile of the Ben-Gals (the cheerleading squad for the Cincinnati Bengals football team). The article gave a great explanation about how the payment system for NFL cheerleaders is designed to instill a sense of pride in the girls instead of a sense of gas money.
NFL cheerleaders, in lieu of getting paid a decent working wage, receive other “perks” that are supposed to make up for the scant pay. Some of these extras include the following:
* Receiving the honor of being named “Cheerleader of the Week”
* Being chosen for their team’s yearly calendar
* Getting chosen to go to Hawaii to cheer in the Pro Bowl each year
Of course, being chosen as the only girl from the squad to go to Hawaii isn’t as much fun if you don’t have any spending money in your cheer pockets with you go.
But wait. I forgot the most important compensation that the cheerleaders receive: PRIDE.
In any other industry, receiving similar distinguished honors for being outstanding in what you do would get you a fairly sizable monetary bonus. Can you imagine being the guy that wins a multi-million dollar client for your company and getting little more than a proverbial pat on the back? That’s what these girls are, in essence, doing.
And somehow, they seem to do it with a smile on their face week after week. At the very least, a cheerleader’s union could ask the NFL to reimburse the girls for their expenses, such as makeup, gym memberships and gas money for traveling to and from the games.
And if the NFL didn’t want to give it to them, I think the cheerleaders going on strike would be much more detrimental than the current writer’s strike happening.

NFL Divisional Playoffs Preview Pt. II
Filed Under NFL Cheerleaders Articles | 1 Comment
With the first pair of matches decided (NFLCB’s picks are 0 for 2, in case you forgot), we can now turn our attention to the final decisive matches to determine not only who gets the right to lose to the Patriots, but also who gets the right to lose to the team that will eventually lose to the Patriots.
NFC Divisional Playoff: Giants at Cowboys
Dallas is home to the highest-earning company in the world (ExxonMobil), the 7-Eleven chain of convenience stores, Dr. Pepper and Zagat’s best-rated hotel restaurant in America. More specifically, the Dallas Cowboy Cheerleaders are quite possibly the gold standard for cheer squads worldwide and their alumnae include a laundry list of slasher flick starlets. Conversely, the Giants play in New Jersey, and everyone knows there is absolutely no reason to cheer for anything related to the Garden State except for The Sopranos, Bruce Springsteen and certain episodes of Aqua Teen Hunger Force.
NFLCB Pick: Cowboys

AFC Divisional Playoff: Chargers at Colts
This one’s tough, as the Charger Girls boats plenty of SoCal cool with names like Constance, Kamri and Kiirsta (yes, with two i’s!). However, the Colts Cheerleaders fight back with Midwestern sweetness and four Jessica’s. Interestingly, between the two there are four whose names are pronounced “Ashley” but spelled any of three different ways. Could there be some weird universal nexus opening up with that much Ashleticism on display? Are we looking at an impending riot by an over-enthusiastic, overly drunk male fanbase that’s been eating special gameday chili since sunrise rendered powerless against sweet smiles and pretty faces telling us that it’s the Chargers, no the Colts, no the ChargersColtsChargerscoltschargerscolts to be aggressive, be-be aggressive? Do these 4 x 3 Ashleys spell impending doom and a collapse of the world as we know it? Probably not, and even the most casual observer would agree the Colts are the superior team anyway. Besides, CBS has to be licking its chops over the prospect of another Colts-Pats conference title game - and what CBS wants, CBS gets.
And, in total defiance of what anyone expects out of Middle America versus the paradise on earth that is San Diego, the Indy girls are actually slightly cuter on the whole than the San Diego girls. Nothing in this world is ever what it seems, sports fans. Nothing.
NFLCB Pick: Colts

Should NFL Cheerleaders Start a Union?
Filed Under NFL Cheerleaders Articles | 1 Comment
In the NFL, beauty really doesn’t pay. As a matter of fact, most NFL cheerleaders only get about $75 for each home game where they cheer. Considering that a typical game could last three hours or more, that’s less than $25 an hour. And that doesn’t even count the number of hours it takes to get “made up” to the stunning beauties that they are.
So do you think an NFL cheerleaders union would be a good idea?
Let’s look at some of the things they are expected to do during a typical season:
- Represent their team at charity appearances
- Attend practice two or three times a week
- Keep their bodies looking spectacular with a strict diet and rigorous workout routine
- Pose in swimsuits or their uniforms for calendars (and they don’t get a share of the profits from these, either)
- Show up early on football Sundays to practice routines
- Go overseas to entertain the troops with the USO
The cheerleaders might get some money for a couple of these. But if the NFL only pays them less than a thousand dollars a year to excite the millions of fans with a big ol’ smile on their face, do you really think they pay them much more for any of these other activities? Probably not.
Of course, there is an argument for the scant pay. The exposure some of the cheerleaders get is priceless. Some of them even go on to bigger and better careers. Look at Teri Hatcher from Desperate Housewives. She was a former NFL cheerleader and now she’s one of the biggest names in Hollywood housewife dramas.
I’ll continue to explore this controversial option. I know I’m not the only guy that enjoys watching the game AND the gals. But there’s that little tinge of guilt I feel knowing that the NFL cheerleaders are basically being exploited. What are your thoughts?
