What to Wear to an NFL Cheerleaders Tryout

Filed Under Cheerleader Auditions, NFL Cheerleader Merchandise |

If this is your first time trying out for the NFL cheerleaders team, you’re probably wondering “What do I need to wear to an NFL cheerleaders tryout?” Well, you’ve come to the right place because I’m going to tell you the ins and outs of how you can get your hands on the right clothes to wear in an NFL cheerleaders tryout as well as any other kind of cheerleading tryout.

There’s no hard-set dress code in terms of NFL cheerleader audition attire. However, we don’t want to show up in a puffy sweater and sweats now do we? Let’s try to avoid sloppy clothes. Especially, when all the other girls are probably going to be wearing something like halter tops and biker shorts. Yes, that is somewhat the standard on what girls wear to NFL cheerleading tryouts. If you don’t believe me, take a look at these three videos of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in their auditions / tryouts process. You’ll see that most of them are wearing some sort of halter top or tank top matched with biker shorts or briefs. Long sleeves are acceptable too but I think girls naturally catch more attention when they show more skin — of course you don’t want to be getting the wrong type of attention so don’t go too far off the skin spectrum. So by all means, watch these videos and get the feel for what the standard is. I’ve provided not one, not two, but three of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers tryouts video which will not only show you what they wear in the NFL cheerleaders tryouts but also show you what you need to prepare yourself for and what kind of competition you will be going up against.

Episode 1: The coordinator expects 400 people to show up at the 2007 Tampa Bay cheerleader tryouts. We get a glimpse of some of the participants in this auditioning process. There are two girls who said they both started a program in working out, eating healthy. Other girls talk about why they want to join. The routine starts with a kickline, four girls at a time. Then another short routine where it’s three girls at a time. 100 girls will make it to semi-finals. One of the girls named Erin says she is intimidated by how many beautiful and talented women there are in these NFL cheerleader tryouts. The kicks are not easy and it’s definitely something you should practice on. What the coordinator is looking for in a potential NFL cheerleader is a well rounded female with great talent, speaking skills, and ability to take part in the community. Some of these girls have had extensive experience in dance, while others not so much. For all of them in the NFL cheerleader tryouts, it’s a nerve-racking experience to some extent but nonetheless the ladies have fun learning all that they can during the process. At the end, the cut is made for semi-finals. Don’t forget to notice what the ladies are wearing as NFL tryout outfits - primarily a tank with bike shorts or pants. Episode 2: Semi-finals - The former Tampa Bay Buccaneer cheerleaders from prior year now enter the auditions process and this makes the new girls a bit nervous. I mean who wouldn’t be? You got a bunch of NFL cheerleading veterans who come in and already know what the judges’ expectations are, who have had a whole season of experience. If you were betting on an NFL veteran versus a rookie, who would you bet your money on? However, the new girls know that they need to step up their game and this is their push to do so. To not step it up, would allow the former NFL cheerleaders an easy win. The 2007 Tampa Bay Cheerleading veterans don’t exactly have it easy because they have to work hard. It’s still a competition and they can’t let their guard down. This time, they audition 2 at a time with a more difficult routine. Learning a routine within 45 minutes to an hour, the girls have to get it right quickly. One of the girls mentions that she found herself looking down trying to remember the steps but pulled her eyes up again. It’s not good to let the judges see u keeping your eyes down. Who wants to see a bunch of cheerleaders staring at their feet while they’re dancing? Not me. The dancers also have to remember to smile. So it’s a tough nerve-racking ordeal to be in these NFL cheerleader auditions but they’ve got to go through it in order to perform for these top quality squads. Episode 3: Finals - This time, the finalists perform their routines one at a time. They get on a stage and perform for the coordinator. It’s not an easy deal but each one tries their best and most of them make the squad. Some of the ladies featured in this video that made the 2007 Tampa Bay Buccaneers Cheerleading squad include Holly Sellers, Erin Verdel, Rochelle Williams, and Leigh Killian (if you remember Leigh, she was the one hosted on Conan O’Brien Show).By the way, don’t worry that was not the 2008 Tampa Bay Buccaneers tryouts. That was actually just the 2007 Tampa Bay Buccaneers auditions. In any case, you have officially seen for yourself that these ladies mostly wear a halter top or tank top with biker shorts.

Okay, so now you’ve seen what kind of clothes you need to wear to the NFL cheerleader auditions, the question is where do you get them?
